The company

Sandvik Wear Protection & Screening Media Manufactures wear protection for vehicles and machinery and screening media for industry. Located in Svedala in connection with Sandvik Mining & Construction but has its own development and administration. Approximately 20 employees in the department.

The mission

Reduce the noise and greatly reduce the need for hearing protection in production at the Wear Protection & Screening Media department at Sandvik in Svedala. Two measures were proposed and implemented. 1. Sound-absorbing cloths as close to the noise sources as possible. 2. Sound-absorbing wall elements around the premises, specially designed for the frequencies where the most noise occurred.

The result

A noticeably lower noise level. In the measurements, the noise level around the room has decreased by between 4 and 13 dB. Only in one of the areas measured was the noise level above 85 dB (the level at which hearing protection should be used). Decibels are measured on a logarithmic scale, which means that a reduction of 10 dB is half the noise level. It is noticeable!

Gigant at Sandvik: Fewer earmuffs - increased productivity

Staff, management and Sandvik's own environmental engineer all agreed: the noise level in the Wear Protection & Screening Media department needed to be reduced. By working with Gigant , they were able to achieve an effective overall solution.

Gigant started by visiting Sandvik in Svedala to take measurements. After a needs analysis, they were able to propose two different tracks. Firstly, isolate as close to the noise sources as possible and secondly, create a general noise reduction in the premises. Sandvik chose to go down both routes.

- "We could immediately see that the noise level had been reduced, but we also carried out measurements of the noise level. And the results are remarkable," says Martin Andersson, Production Manager at Sandvik, Wear Protection & Screening Media.

Today, few earmuffs are visible on the floor, while productivity has increased from 58% to over 75%.

- Many factors are involved here, but noise reduction has obviously played a role, as noise is a tiring factor. And a lower noise level makes it easier to communicate, for example, and reduces the risk of misunderstandings," says Martin Andersson.

Analysis

We start by analyzing the work environment on the ground - what are the priority needs and potential problem areas? We then listen to your own expertise on the business and production to ensure that our delivery makes a real difference.

Solution

Based on the analysis, we develop a complete solution. The proposal can be drawn in Gigant 3D to visualize and quote the offer and for you as a customer to get a sense of how the solution fits in and how different details are designed.

Commissioning

We don't let go of responsibility just because the product has left the warehouse. If required, we also help with on-site installation and ensure that the solution works properly. We have installation teams all over the Nordic region.
