Product guide: Installation

Performing some kind of assembly in a manufacturing industry is very common. Traditionally, this is carried out at a table, but it can just as easily be carried out on an assembly line or at a station in the production line. The basic requirements are of course the same wherever the assembly is performed, but to achieve the right efficiency with the right ergonomic conditions, different measures and solutions are needed to adapt the station to the changing conditions. A common challenge is to ensure that the lighting is of the right dimensions regardless of where the work is carried out.

In the Product Guide for the Assembly Workplace, we highlight common problems in this workplace and guide you to product solutions to help you overcome them. What can we help you with?

Our approach to finding the right solution

The basic requirements are of course the same wherever the installation is carried out, but to achieve the right efficiency with the right ergonomic conditions, different measures and solutions are needed to adapt the station to the changing conditions.

1. LIGHTING

Problem: The lighting cannot be adjusted to my needs

Solution: To remove reflections and bring out contrasts, it is important to be able to angle the light. Side lighting is best suited for a small assembly table, to easily avoid shadowing. Supplement side lighting with linear lighting if the table is larger or if extra light is needed. Use an arm-mounted spotlight that is easily directed to where extra light is needed. A light with a magnifying glass is often needed for fine assembly.

2. STORAGE

Problem: There is no storage for tools

Solution: Tools that are used frequently but not continuously during assembly are placed in a shelf rack. Keep in mind that those that are picked frequently should be in the center to create the best working position. Attaching a hurt under the table solves the storage of smaller things that you need to have close to you. In addition, it comes up from the floor, which makes cleaning easier.

3. WORKING HEIGHT

Problem: Shoulder and back pain

Solution: With a height-adjustable work table , the workplace is easily adapted to the height of the user and it is easy to vary sitting and standing. Attach the most frequent tools to a balancers and the others to a tool panel on the extension system. Place an articulating arm plus a plastic backsheet on a pillar and you have many details close to you.

4. SIMPLICITY

Problem: Hoses and cables are in the way

Solution: Attach cords, cables, power sockets, etc. to a cable collector. Easier to keep clean and nothing in the way.

5. LIFT

Problem: Heavy lifting

Solution: A good solution to facilitate lifting around the assembly station is a Wall swing tap. The advantage is that it hangs on the wall and does not take up floor space or is in the way of other aids. Combine with an electric hoist for a complete flexible lifting solution.

6. AMOUNT OF LIGHT

Problem: Often suffer from headaches

Solution: One reason for headaches is often poor lighting. The right amount of light is important. Assembly workplaces need 500lux on the work surface and fine assembly 700lux. The best option for a small assembly table is a side light to easily avoid shadows. Supplement the side lighting if the table is larger or if extra light is needed.

7. MOBILITY

Problem: Have to regularly pick up heavy components.

Solution: A mobile tray rack solves the supply of components. The most frequent ones are stored in the center. A slightly larger trolley is used where the finished products can be loaded and then transported to the packing table.

8. ACCESSIBILITY

Problem: People feel stressed in the workplace and it is easy to make mistakes.

Solution: Provide the tool panel with silhouettes of the tools that should be in place. This way it is quickly clear if anything is missing and where everything should go. Use different colors for the picking boxes, with each color having a unique meaning. Mark with tape on the floor where the different trolleys and tools should be placed.

BONUS - ENVIRONMENT

Problem: Is it okay to store chemicals at your workplace?

Solution: With a chemical-tested cabinet supplemented with grid shelves and spill trays at the bottom, it works well.

BONUS - ESD

Problem: How do I ensure that there is no electrostatic charge present/forming at my workplace?

Solution: In order not to create any risks, the number of people moving inside an EPA area should be limited. Delimit the EPA area and ensure that all equipment used in the workplace is ESD protected. Use a table top that is made of ESD laminate, ESD mat or any table top with a loose ESD mat on it. Remember to always supplement with a wrist strap and an earthing box.
