Durable simple protection to prevent the spread of turbid water.
Dredging and excavation at contaminated ports, lakes and slopes requires that contaminated materials and turbid water are not allowed to spread to surrounding waters. The environmental curtain acts as a frame around the work area and prevents the spread of turbid water and contaminated materials.
The Environmental Curtain (also known as Silt Curtain) effectively helps to contain the turbid water when it is set in motion. A durable filtration cloth encloses the float above the water surface, while extending down below the water surface and connecting to the bottom using a customized chain.
Installation and handling
SoSilt Bas takes up little space on delivery and once at the work site it can be easily and quickly connected to the desired length. The standard delivery length is 25 meters/section, several sections are easily connected to one unit using the built-in coupling unit.
The floats are detachable and can be transported separately and reused. The standard floats can be replaced with their own stronger float tubes (PE/PEH tubes) when suspending/working in more exposed water areas.
For areas with high conservation values and strong currents (3-4 knots and more), double silt curtains may be appropriate. They are then placed at such a distance from each other that they act as a double barrier to turbidity. This provides extra safety if one of the Silt Curtains should break (ref. SwAM report 2018:19 from the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management).
